What Are Verse Novels and Why Are They Worth Reading? Young Adult Novels in Verse as Exemplified by the Works of Sarah Crossan
Abstract
The aim of this article is to present the phenomenon of the YA verse novel, largely overlooked in Polish literary studies, and to demonstrate its value as both an innovative literary genre and a tool for literary education. Drawing on English-language scholarship, the author defines the genre and outlines its key characteristics. The analysis focuses on the works of Sarah Crossan, which employ poetic language to depict marginalization with anthropological sensitivity. The author proposes understanding the YA verse novel as a form of affective narration with considerable educational potential.
