Drake of Cracow at Stake. Against the Holophagus as Seen by Professor Zenon Kałuża
Abstract
Author argue against the Zenon Kałuża’s conviction that the beast of Wawel (Cracow), hidden in the Master Vincent’s Chronicle (end of 12th c.) behind the name of holophagus, is, indeed, not a drake, but a humanoid monster. The beast of Wawel, however, fits in very well together with the other representatives of numerous medieval drake family and the standard narrative pattern of fight with dragon was used by chronicler in the given tale.
