Prywatyzacja bezpieczeństwa publicznego w Ameryce Łacińskiej

Abstract


The aim of the article is to analyze the phenomenon of privatization of public safety
in Latin America. In the first part, the author indicates the determinants of the process and characterizes the private security sector in the region. Then he analyzes the legal status, paying particular attention to the status of security companies, surveillance mechanisms and relations of private entities with the police. In the third part, the author shows the problems resulting from the lack of supervision over the private security sector. It focuses on the problem of abuses and violence. It is essential to respond to the questions about the role and importance of the private sector in public security systems in Latin American countries.
