Mediatization of education at university level. Opportunities and threats from the perspective of students and academics - results of own research

Abstract


He aim of this article is to examine the opportunities and threats arising from the process of mediatization of education at the university level. After a theoretical review of the concept of mediatization and the presentation of the transformations taking place in education under the influence of new media and their logic, the perception of the very process of mediatisation of education by students and academics of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin is described. The research of an exploratory nature, with the use of individual interviews in an online format, made it possible to learn about and analyse the changes taking place in education and the ways in which they are perceived by students and academics. Indeed, media-driven changes in the education system are accelerating and becoming more radical. The results of the study can inform discussions on the future of higher education in the face of mediatization.
